Organist Bob Lane

Robert Layne has been the organist at St. Stephen’s United Methodist for over 38 years and also served as choir director for 25 of those years. Bob’s expertise at the organ has also been demonstrated at Euclid Avenue Christian Church in Lynchburg, West Lynchburg Baptist Church, Fairfax Baptist Church, and Hope Lutheran Church in Annandale. Robert has also served as Dean of the Lynchburg chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Mr. Layne spent his life working as a teacher and administrator and has served as president of the Phi Delta Kappa, president of the American Childhood Education Institute, member of the National and State Principals Association, and the Virginia Education Association. Bob has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lynchburg College and a Masters of Education degree from the University of Virginia. In his spare time he enjoys bowling, tennis, bridge, and more music! Bob and his wife Mary enjoy frequenting many local restaurants, working in the yard, and spending time with their children – Kevin, Sean, Paige and their five grandchildren.
