Get to Know Pastor Marg

Pastor Marg was born in Pennsylvania to a family of seven children.  She graduated from Clarion University in 1971 with degree in Elementary Education, Wesley Theological Seminary in 1976 with Masters of Divinity Degree, and Virginia Union University School of Theology in 2007 with a Doctor of Ministry.

She was ordained a deacon in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1974 and an elder in 1977.

Beginning in 1976 Marg served as pastor of six United Methodist churches in Virginia including Round Hill in Loudoun County, Trinity in McLean, Sleepy Hollow and St. Luke’s in Falls Church, Wellspring in Williamsburg, and Chester in central Virginia.  She retired in 2013 with 39 years of service, the longest serving clergywoman in the history of the Virginia Conference.  Her most coveted award is the Harry Denman Evangelism Award which she received in 2008.

Marg received her training and recommendation as a life coach from Path 1 (General Board of Discipleship of the UMC) and is currently coaching 7 UM pastors.  She fulfilled her life-long dream of teaching in Africa when she went to South Sudan in the fall of 2013 and opened a secondary school, teaching the first five weeks.  She continues to work with the Lost Boys of Sudan and Abukloi, Inc., a non-profit in Virginia, in their work to improve the lives of people in Rumbek, South Sudan through education.  She will return to South Sudan for a three-week visit in June, 2014.

Marg and Bob have been married for 42 years and have two children and two grandchildren.  Bob retired from civil service in 1995.  He enjoys playing bridge and umpiring softball and baseball.  Marg’s hobbies include gardening, bird watching, walking, and art.

Welcome our new Pastor on her first Sunday, July 6th. Pastor Marg’s sermon will be from 2 Corinthians 4: 7-10, “Lessons From the Farm Pond.” A reception will follow the 11:00am Worship Service. All are invited.
