Choose Furnaces Wisely
Heating often accounts for 45% of all home energy costs so decisions about your furnace have a lot to do with both how much you pay each year and how green your house is. When you’re picking out a new furnace, look at the annual fuel utilization efficiency rating (AFUE). It should range from 78 to 95 on new units. A gas furnace with a 78 AFUE will cost roughly $140 more to run per year than one with a 90 AFUE score.
