Green Sunscreen

Thinking of heading to the beach for vacation or taking that cruise to the Bahamas?  When you pick a sunscreen, it’s important to choose one that is biodegradable or “reef-friendly”.  The 78 million tourists who visit areas with coral reefs leave behind 4,000-6,000 tons of sunscreen annually (because about 25% of it washes off).  Sunscreens with physical UV barriers (like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) are the most environmentally friendly—plus they’re the healthiest for humans too—the chemical preservatives and UV blockers that damage reefs may interfere with human hormones.
