altUMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief): St. Stephen’s provides financial support for the United Methodist Committee on Relief. UMCOR helps in disaster relief in the U.S. and across the globe as well as many other relief ministries.

 

UMW Mission Kits: St. Stephen’s donates layette kits, sewing kits, health kits, and blankets for distribution to people in need throughout the world.

 

Hearts for Honduras: Teams of adults and youth from St. Stephen’s participate in a mission trip and outreach efforts to work to build schools and homes and to fill other needs in Honduras.

 

Heifer Project: Financial assistance is given to purchase livestock for impoverished people as a self-help means to improve the quality of their lives

 

Russian Partnership and Mission Trips:  St. Stephen’s works through the districtwide initiative to partner with fledgling UMC churches in Pyatigorsk and Stavropol, Russia. In addition, each summer a team of volunteers works on a boarding school and other projects in Pyatigorsk.

 

helping_childrenAfrica Programs (Sierra Leone): St. Stephen's is a member of a 12-church partnership of United Methodist Churches focused on two children and health projects in Bo, Sierra Leone through Helping Children Worldwide.  In 2000 the Child Rescue Centre opened to support 40 children; today, the CRC supports nearly 250 children providing them shelter, food, clothing, education and a family.  In 2007, Mercy Hospital opened to provide medical care regardless of ability to pay.  Today, Mercy Hospital serves around 900 patients a month, and has developed thriving community outreach programs. 

Serving these children and the surrounding community can be done from home as well as on mission trips.
