Telling Our Story
St. Stephen’s is an incredibly active church with a good deal to offer the community and our world. Here is where we will tell our story.
As part of this Telling Our Story series, we put together a video about our FX Advent Night to showcase the incredible Children’s Ministry St. Stephen’s has to offer families. Take a moment to watch it here and be sure to share it with those who you’d like to invite to be a part of our Children and Family Ministry here at SSUMC.
On Saturday October 19th, the whole church and community gathered to package 50,000 Stop Hunger Now meals to be sent ’round the world to feed our brothers and sisters. We were hoping for 200 volunteers from the church and community to help us pack 50,000 meals. In stead we ended up with 350 volunteers and packed 50,382 meals! Did you know that St. Stephen’s runs a free musical camp for a week each summer? During this week, children come to church daily to learn a musical (parts, lines, music, choreography, etc.) as well as the Scripture associated with the show. Students spend the week practicing for the final performance which takes place during the 11AM Sunday worship service. The 2013 musical camp selection was It’s Cool in the Furnace:A musical about Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego with music by Buryl Red, lyrics by Grace Hawthorne. This August 25 children participated in musical camp and shared the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego with the congregation.
