Thank you to all the volunteers who made  St. Stephen’s Church’s annual Thanksgiving  Grace Ministries Event a Success.

St. Stephen’s Church in Burke, Va.,served more than 300 families during  its annual Thanksgiving Grace Ministries event, Saturday, Nov. 21.

This year’s distribution was a drive-thru, contact free event.   Two dozen volunteers distributed 300 turkeys, 300 pounds of butter, 300 pies, bread donated by Panera, bags of fresh fruit and diapers.  Three dozen dinner packages were also sent to the Brown Education Campus in Washington D.C.

Fresh fruit and on-site volunteers were from Bishop Andrew Williams’ Mormon congregation, whose efforts were organized by Matt Archer-Beck  Potatoes were donated through a drive organized by Centreville United Methodist Church, which created a special St. Stephen’s tag for each bag. Earlier in the week in preparation for the Nov. 21 event, another dozen volunteers helped assemble food boxes at the church.
St. Stephen’s would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to all the volunteers and other supporters  who make this program possible.

We as the body of Christ are beyond blessed to be able to reach our community in times of need.  Happy Thanksgiving to all!  For more information on St. Stephen’s, please visit our homepage at www.ststephensfairfax.org.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Grace Ministries at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church is currently being offered in a drive-thru format on the fourth Saturday of most months, distributing food and diapers to its guests in the parking lot of the church located at 9203 Braddock Road, Burke, Va., 22015.  A limited number of volunteers are needed to support this project to ensure that social distancing between volunteers and all of our guests is maintained. For more information on this program, please call the church office at 703-978- 8724.

Below is a description of how the program is run when social distancing is not a factor. (prior to March 2020)

St. Stephen’s has joined Grace Ministries in reaching out to our neighbors in need on the 4th Saturday of most months (November and December distributions vary due to the holidays). We distribute free clothes, toys, food, and diapers to our guests. Donations are appreciated – seasonal clothing (men’s, women’s children’s), children’s books, toys, and baby items (e.g., high chairs, strollers). Please bring donations to the church on the Friday before the distribution. Many volunteers are needed both to set-up on Friday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and help with the distribution on Saturday. The distribution runs from 7 to 9:30 am, but we need volunteers as early as 6:30 AM to help fix and serve a hot breakfast. We also need volunteers to help with the distribution and shopping carts (please arrive around 8 am), and with clean-up (9:30 am). Volunteers enter the building through the entrance in front of the Fellowship Hall (which at the left end as you face the building). For those who want to volunteer, but can’t make it at 6:30, we welcome volunteers to help with shopping carts (please come around 8:30 am) and for clean-up (9:30 am).

Our distributions began in May 2009. Each month we receive a special offering during communion to help support the financial needs of this ministry.
