This stage is the heart of adolescence. Most adolescence have two things in common: passion and a general lack of caution. The “You Only Live Once” lifestyle (YOLO) could prove dangerous if it results in nothing but selfishness. But, if the innate passion of adolescence is paired with God’s passionate love for the world, “You Only Live Once” becomes a motivation for living as beautiful and loving a life as possible, fashioned after the life of Jesus echoing in the church.
Rites of Passage:
Human Sexuality Seminar: Our Human Sexuality Seminar is a weekend-long seminar (though not overnight) to explore sexuality and the Christian faith in a safe, non-judgmental environment. The seminar is for youth and their parents. The education is engaging and thorough, and it includes a nothing-is-off-limits question and answer period. We think this is the best resource of its kind around.
Sunday School: We offer two great Sunday School classes for youth. Grades 7th – 9th meet in Room M9. Grades 9th – 12th meet in the Youth Room. Exciting curriculum has been specially planned and prepared for this year! MORE
Youth Group: St. Stephen’s Youth Ministry exists to ignite active Christian faith. St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship meets every Sunday night, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. 7th to 12th graders (Middle and High school in Fairfax County) can kick back and relax, while learning more about their faith. Dinner will be provided each week. Can’t make it at 5:30p.m. or have too much homework/sports/car washing/dog washing/cat washing, etc., to come for 2 hours? Join us at 6:30 pm Sunday in the chapel for a half-hour prayer service to get your week off to a great start! We call it Youth Chapel.
Bible Study: Most weeks we have at least one mid-week Bible study over breakfast at McDonald’s. Make sure to sign up for our weekly e-mails for updates on when the next one will meet.
At St. Stephen’s we partner with families from birth to launch. Visit our Family Map for more information.
