This is the bridge point between middle adolescence and late adolescence. This is when young people start to be aware of the life they are about to begin with less parental guidance. It is an occasion for planning–not just planning what you will do next year, but who you will be as an adult. Together with parents, we will help young people plan, work, and set patterns for a successful launch into a life of faithful service to God and others.

Rites of Passage:

Senior Retreats: We offer two different events for seniors. First, a seniors’ overnight retreat (usually the weekend after AP exams) to relax and celebrate the end of exams. Second, each senior is encouraged to participate in SummerCon, a summer confirmation experience for High Schoolers, so that every student, before they launch, has a chance to re-affirm their faith and commit themselves to the Way of Christ.

Senior Re-Affirmation: As mentioned above, seniors get a chance before they launch to re-affirm their faith before whatever is next after graduation. It’s kind of like confirmation, only now you’re a young adult, with adult questions, deserving serious adult answers. All of this is because being a Christian is serious, and as an adult, we want our “launchers” to get to make a serious commitment.

Grad Night: June 13, 2015: For all graduates and their parents, we host a grad-night dinner to mark this major transition towards adulthood. Together we celebrate, pray, and eat a delicious meal while looking back on our graduate’s lives and ministry, and looking forward to what God may yet do through their lives.

Weekly Connect:

Sunday School: We offer two great Sunday School classes for youth. Grades 7th – 9th meet in Room M9. Grades 9th – 12th meet in the Youth Room. Exciting curriculum has been specially planned and prepared for this year! MORE

Youth Group: St. Stephen’s Youth Ministry exists to ignite active Christian faith. St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship meets every Sunday night, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. 7th to 12th graders (Middle and High school in Fairfax County) can kick back and relax, while learning more about their faith. Dinner will be provided each week. Can’t make it at 5:30p.m. or have too much homework/sports/car washing/dog washing/cat washing, etc., to come for 2 hours? Join us at 6:30 pm Sunday in the chapel for a half-hour prayer service to get your week off to a great start! We call it Youth Chapel.

Bible Study: Most weeks we have at least one mid-week Bible study over breakfast at McDonald’s. Make sure to sign up for our weekly e-mails for updates on when the next one will meet.

Free Frozen Yogurt at Zinga: Every Thursday at 3:30 you can find us at Zinga in the Kings Park shopping center. The froyo is free. The fun is priceless!

At St. Stephen’s we partner with families from birth to launch. Visit our Family Map for more information.
