Local Scout builds benches for Chapel in the Glenn
The Glenn receives facelift thanks to Boy Scout Jake Whitfield.
Jake, a junior at Lake Braddock, built the benches for his Eagle Scout project with Troop 1131, the troop charted by St. Stephen’s. Jake has been involved in scouting for about 10 years, starting with Cub Scouts, according to his dad, Scott.
“He has been fortunate to have an amazing den leader in Kevin Dunlop, and great troop leaders in Chris Wallace, Mark Blanchard, and Dan Peck,” Scott says. Chuck Smith, the Troop’s liaison to the church for Eagle Scout Projects, recommended the project in March. Jake started planning and designing the benches in June and spent over 200 hours building the benches.
“I felt that building the benches would be a great way to give back to the church, Jake says. “Especially for everything it has done while I have been in the troop.”
